Description
OFFERED WITHOUT RESERVE
Introduced in the mid-1960s, the Fiat 124 Spider was Fiat’s answer to the affordable European roadster—combining elegant Pininfarina styling with lively twin-cam performance and a comfortable, well-balanced chassis. By 1972, the Spider had matured into a refined yet spirited open-top sports car, powered by a 1438cc inline-four and featuring independent front suspension, disc brakes, and a five-speed manual transmission. With its Italian charm and mechanical simplicity, the 124 Spider remains a beloved classic among enthusiasts.
This particular 1972 Fiat 124 Spider is a project car, offered with a host of spare parts including an extra engine block, cylinder head, transmission, radiator, and a pair of wheels. Purchased by the seller in Florida in 1988, it served as a daily driver until 1998, after which it was stored and reportedly covered under a deck. Finished in red over a tan interior, the seller notes the original color may have been British Racing Green based on the factory chassis tag.
Mechanically, the seller claims the engine turns freely and was treated to new piston rings and ground valves approximately 2,000 miles before storage. The transmission was reportedly replaced around the same time. The spare block requires an oil pump shaft, and the spare transmission may need a second gear synchro.
Rust is present in typical 124 locations, including the rocker panels, and one front shock tower has been previously replaced. The seller notes the doors “close properly” when the car is on its wheels, but sag slightly when on jack stands. The convertible top is intact, though it may need some stitching. The interior features cloth front seats with leather surrounds—likely a period modification for comfort in Florida’s climate.
