Description
OFFERED WITHOUT RESERVE
The 1972 Chevrolet Nova had few changes compared to the 1971 model — a good thing after 1968’s aggressive, semi-fastback redesign. Mechanical changes in 1972 were few, with upgraded V8 engine mounts and a stronger rear axle; however, more exterior and interior colors were offered, along with new seat fabric.
Built on a 111-inch wheelbase and wearing a 189-inch body, one of the compact Nova’s most distinctive features was its front subframe assembly, a lightweight, bolt-in unit that supported the engine and front suspension components. And while a six-cylinder and two other V8s were available, the hot one was the Nova SS’ 350ci Turbo-Fire V8, which sent 200 (net) horsepower through either a 4-speed manual or a 3-speed automatic. As-equipped, this engine made the flyweight Nova quick for 1972.
And speaking of quick, this mean-looking 1972 Nova race car is equipped with an automatic-backed, 502ci big block. It has a strong rear end, specialized 4-link suspension, and massive slicks for quick 60-foot times, wears fiberglass body panels and Lexan windows for less weight, and is equipped with many safety items including an integrated roll cage, a racing seat with harness, four-wheel disc brakes, and a parachute.
