Description

The muscle car era was over, at least the way it was in the 1960s. Insurance premiums skyrocketed for pony- and intermediate-sized cars over 350 cu-in, which made the 1971 Nova Super Sport a smash hit.

The 1971 Chevy Nova represented an evolution in Chevrolet’s compact car, which began a significant redesign in 1968. The Nova was built on a stretched 111 inch wheelbase, nearly matching the midsize Chevelle coupe in size but retaining the compact car label. Unique to the Nova was its front subframe assembly, a departure from other manufacturers who integrated the front suspension with the bodyshell. This design, which housed both the powertrain and front suspension, was similar to GM’s full-sized vehicles and was first introduced in the Chevrolet Camaro. By 1971, the Nova offered various configurations, the flagship choice being the Super Sport powered by the iconic Chevrolet 350 small block. This powerful yet compact V8 propelled the Nova SS with 270 SAE Gross horsepower advertised, and is noted for its performance, ease of tuning, and reliability.

This award-winning, fully restored 1971 Nova SS shows how 70s muscle is done.
