Description
The third generation of the Corvette, known as the C3 was produced by Chevrolet from 1968 until 1982. Featuring a completely resigned body and interior while borrowing some chassis components from the previous generation helped the Stingray to achieve new sales records. Designed by Zora Arkus-Duntov and Bill Mitchell, the C3 offered a sharp front end that transitions to muscular rear fenders for a sleek design influenced by the Mako Shark II concept created by Larry Shinoda. By 1971, the C3 Corvette would receive new fender flares incorporated into the body contours which not only provided a sporty appearance, but also helped reduce the amount of road-debris thrown from the wheels. This mid-cycle refresh would also bring an updated interior with redesigned seats alongside wood-grain wood accents and higher-spec carpeting. When pitted against the more expensive German competitor of the time, Motor Trend would find that, as usual, the Corvette offered an amazing performance value when compared to its nearest rivals, “There is Corvette and there is Porsche… The difference in machines is not as great as the disparity in price”.
