Description
Introduced as part of Pontiac’s second-generation A-body redesign, the 1970 GTO featured a more sculpted body, a split grille, and an optional hood-mounted tachometer. It retained its signature “Endura” impact-resistant front bumper — a unique innovation at the time.
Under the hood, the GTO offered several potent engine choices, including the standard 400 cu-in V8 that produced 350 horsepower. Both three and four-speed manual transmissions were available, along with a three-speed Turbo Hydra-Matic automatic. As Pontiac put it at the time, “We take the fun of driving seriously.”
The 1970 model also introduced the “Judge” package for its final year, a bold, performance-oriented trim with flashy graphics, a rear spoiler, and upgraded suspension. Though muscle car sales began to decline due to rising insurance costs and tightening emissions regulations, the 1970 GTO remains a symbol of American automotive power and style.
This 1970 GTO Hardtop received refurbishment work in the 1990s and is refinished in red, complemented by color-coordinated vinyl upholstery. Power is provided by a 400 cu-in V8 paired with a three-speed automatic transmission, and a retro-style stereo and polished five-spoke alloy wheels are fitted.
