Description

OFFERED WITHOUT RESERVE

The Plymouth Barracuda joined the rising muscle car segment in 1964. Initially based on the Plymouth Valiant, it featured a distinctive fastback design with a large wraparound rear window, setting it apart from other cars of the era. By 1967, the Barracuda featured a more aggressive and sporty design and introduced more powerful engine options.

The muscle machine’s most iconic iteration arrived with the third generation in 1970. Built on Chrysler’s E-body platform, the Barracuda featured a wider, more muscular stance and a range of high-performance engines, most notably the legendary 425-horsepower, 426 cubic-inch Hemi V8. Trim levels included the base model, luxurious Gran Coupe, and high-performance ’Cuda.

It was easy to notice the difference in these newer models, and Plymouth advertising said as much. “Only the name is the same ... [Barracuda is the] most changed car in America. Strong. Low. Wide. Maneuverable. Fun.”

The 1970 Barracuda was the top seller among Plymouth E-Body models, with 55,499 sold. While the most popular Barracuda selection was the base Hardtop (25,651), that didn’t mean it was the version that enthusiasts desired most. In later years, Plymouth fans chose to build tribute cars, like this one with a 426 cu-in Hemi V8, Shaker hood, and ’Cuda trim.
