Classic Motorsports and Grassroots Motorsports have been the go-to source for classic car and racing news, restoration stories and car video content for sports car owners and fans alike. Both publications have featured project cars series where audiences are treated to how-to restoration videos and guides, customization content, and everything else we dream about in our own garages. Like every good story, these cars from the publisher's personal collection are now ready for their next chapter.

The Triumph TR6 is adored by British sports car fans as the last of the traditional English roadsters. Officially introduced in January 1969, the TR6 featured a masterfully restyled body by Karmann, which gave the car a more modern and aggressive look while retaining the chassis and running gear of its predecessors.

The TR6 was powered by a 2.5-liter straight-six engine, producing 150 horsepower in the UK with fuel injection and 104 hp in the U.S. with carburetors. This engine provided impressive performance for its time, making the TR6 a popular choice among sports car enthusiasts. The car came with a four-speed manual transmission, with an optional overdrive for improved highway cruising.

One of the notable features of the TR6 was its traditional body-on-frame construction, combined with independent rear suspension, front disc brakes, and rear drum brakes. The interior was simple yet functional, featuring bucket seats, full instrumentation, and a wooden dashboard.

This 1969 Triumph TR6 was a garage find that was completely restored by Classic Motorsports magazine from a rust-free California car. All of the sheet metal is totally original. The original engine was rebuilt by Triumph legend JK Jackson with a slight bump in compression (about 10:1), a mild GP2 GoodParts cam, and SU carbs from an earlier TR4.

Ownership History

This 1969 Triumph TR6 had about 120,000 miles on its broken odometer when it was purchased by Classic Motorsports magazine and restored in 2008-2010. “While we love this car and have taken it on several 1,000+ mile trips, sadly we need to make room for other cars.”
