Description
Oldsmobile introduced the 442 in 1964 as a performance package for the Cutlass, its name referencing “4-barrel carburetor, 4-speed transmission, and dual exhaust.” By 1968 the 442 had become a standalone model, offered in Holiday Coupe, Convertible, and Sport Coupe (aka "Post Coupe) body styles. The 1969 model year carried forward the crisp, aggressive styling of the second generation, with a prominent shoulder line, sculpted panels, and performance-oriented trim. Positioned as Oldsmobile’s flagship muscle car, the 442 combined serious factory performance with a level of refinement unlike many of its peers.
The W-30 package represented the highest-performance specification of the 442, featuring a factory cold-air induction system feeding a high-compression 400ci V8. Unique camshaft, valvetrain, and carburetor calibrations further distinguished the W-30, which was paired with heavy-duty driveline components to handle the additional output. Sport Coupe (aka "Post Coupe") 442s equipped with the W-30 package were built in very limited numbers.
This 1969 Oldsmobile 442 W-30 Sport Coupe (aka "Post Coupe") shows 21,200 miles and is located in Santa Rosa, California; it is offered on dealer consignment by the current owner with a clean Oregon title. It is claimed to retain its factory drivetrain, consisting of the W-30-equipped 400cu-in V8 paired with a Hurst-shifted 4-speed manual transmission and a 3.42 Posi-Traction 12-bolt rear axle. Additional equipment includes factory bucket seats, Magnum 500 wheels, trumpet exhaust outlets, and the car reportedly retains factory glass throughout. The car has been garage-kept in climate-controlled storage by its current owner, and is ready for its next lucky owner.
