Ford announced the Mach 1 to car enthusiasts with ads saying, “Power-seekers, your Mustang Mach 1 is ready.” It was a combination performance and appearance package allowing buyers to supe up their Mustangs straight from the factory.

As the Mustang slowly grew from a pony car to a muscle car, quite literally in size, the Mach 1 joined the Mustang stable alongside the GT, Boss 302, Boss 429 and Shelby variants. Available in only the “SportsRoof” fastback body style, it included a matte black hood with hood pins, hood scoop, competition suspension, Mach 1 wheels, deluxe interior, chin spoiler, rear deck spoiler and SportSlats window louvers. The standard Mach 1 was equipped with a 351ci Windsor V8 engine paired to a three-speed manual.

This Mach 1 is equipped with a correct factory-optional 390ci FE V8--named after Ford-Edsel--paired with a four-speed manual transmission, and has been modified for additional performance as detailed below. It's factory configurations are confirmed via an included Marti report shown in the photo gallery.
