Description
The first-generation Camaro was a formidable rival to Ford’s Mustang. In 1969 Chevrolet sharpened the look with an aggressive V-shaped grille, squared-off wheel arches, vented rear quarter panels, and a sleek rear valance. Its new design was instantly classic, with many enthusiasts considering the ’69 Camaro as one of the most stylish cars ever built.
Equipped with the COPO 9560 option, the Camaro ZL-1 was the pinnacle of Camaro performance. The ZL-1 included a "430-hp" aluminum-block 427 backed by an M21 or M22 four-speed manual or an M40 three-speed automatic transmission, a Positraction axle with heat-treated 4.10 gears, an F41 suspension, and additional heavy-duty items like a four-core radiator and the ZL-2 cold air induction hood. Only 69 ZL-1s were ever built, and their mid-11-second quarter miles with just headers and slicks are legendary.
This Camaro convertible, while not a ZL-1, channels much of that swagger. It is powered by an Anniversary Edition 427ci Chevrolet crate engine, which passes its muscle through a five-speed manual transmission to a Positraction rear end. Underneath, it features an Art Morrison front and Kugel independent rear suspension design, which works in concert with custom gray 18" front and 20" rear wheels wearing performance tires to stick the corners. Its black paint has been reapplied to a body wearing RS nose styling, a cowl-induction hood, monochromatic trim, and ZL-1 badges.
The dark theme extends to the bucket-seat interior as well, which has been enhanced with custom stitched leather upholstery, custom gauges, an aftermarket steering wheel, and a custom console sporting a Hurst shifter and an amplified Alpine stereo system with a touchscreen head unit.
This modified 1969 Chevrolet Camaro Convertible is now offered by the selling dealer with a clean Florida title.
