Description
OFFERED WITHOUT RESERVE
Volkswagen marked 18 consecutive years of increased sales in 1967, selling 1,921,013 vehicles worldwide. U.S. Beetle sales climbed to 320,692 units, but the company’s share of the imported compact car market dropped to 57 percent as General Motors used Buick to sell German Opels and Chrysler used its newfound ownership of the Rootes group to release some Hillman and Sunbeam models in America. The '67 Beetle hit the market with an upgraded 12-volt electrical system and revised body panels, which contributed to the car being regarded as a one-year-only example in the model's history.
This modified example has been fitted with earlier-model fenders and turn signals, Porsche 911-style headlight lenses, H4 headlamps, a convertible-model vented decklid, and European-specification bumpers and taillight lenses. The four-speed manual transaxle has reportedly been modified with a “Freeway Flyer” gearset, while other notable modifications include four-wheel disc brakes, dropped spindles, chrome-finished Rader-style wheels, a rear camber compensator, and a reinforced intermediate transaxle mount.
The replacement dual-port air-cooled flat-four engine is said to displace 1.6 liters and was installed under prior ownership. Engine details include dual carburetors, a vacuum-advance distributor, an aftermarket camshaft, electronic ignition, an upright crankcase breather/oil filler, an extended-capacity oil sump, and a merged header exhaust system.
This modified 1967 Volkswagen Beetle sedan is now offered at no reserve with spare parts and transferrable New York State registration in the seller’s name.
