Description
OFFERED WITHOUT RESERVE
The Mercedes-Benz SL line, known for its exquisite blend of performance, luxury, and timeless design, has been an icon in the automotive world for decades. Introduced in 1963, the W 113 body style Mercedes-Benz SL represented a pinnacle of automotive engineering during its era. Often referred to as the "Pagoda" due to its distinct concave hardtop, 1967 saw the introduction of the rarest of the W 113 series cars - the 250 SL. At the heart of the 250 SL was a robust 2.5-liter inline-six engine. With a respectable 150 horsepower, it may not have been the most powerful SL, however, its lightweight construction and balanced handling made it a joy to drive. The 250 SL excelled both as a spirited sports car and a refined grand tourer, offering a comfortable ride for long-distance journeys. What truly set the 250 SL apart was its elegant, yet minimalist design. The iconic Pagoda hardtop, with its unique shape and large glass area, not only enhanced the car's aesthetics but also improved visibility. Inside, the cabin exuded luxury with high-quality materials and craftsmanship, setting the standard for Mercedes-Benz interiors.
During a recent (20 September 2023) two and half hour test drive the consigning specialist made the following notes:
Started and stopped with ease, tested a half dozen times during the drive
Held correct operating temperature and oil pressure throughout the drive with smooth engine performance
The four-speed automatic transmission shifted without issue
The brake pedal felt firm and the car tracked straight under braking
Five gallons of 93 octane fuel were added to test the fuel gauge, with it observed to rise at it should
The roll up windows operated with ease, fitting into the window and top seals, including the pagoda hardtop
The Mercedes-Benz 250 SL remains a sought-after classic today. Celebrated for its timeless beauty and engineering prowess, the Mercedes-Benz 250 SL “Pagoda” is the personification of 1960s sporting charm in a package that combines performance and elegance within the legendary SL lineage.
