1967 Austin-Healey 3000 Mark III

Description

In the realm of British sporting machines there was a magical sweet spot between the inexpensive fun-loving four-cylinder roadsters and the wallet-busting expense of a Jaguar XK: the six-cylinder sports car. During the 1960s Austin-Healey owned that space with their beloved 3000 series “Big Healey” convertibles. 

Produced from 1959 to 1967, the Austin-Healey 3000 was renowned for its robust performance and elegant design. The car's bodywork was crafted by Jensen Motors, and it was assembled at the British Motor Corporation's (BMC) MG Works in Abingdon, England. The 3000 model featured a 2.9-liter C-Series inline-six engine, which provided an impressive 148 hp and 165 lb-ft of torque in the lightweight sports car. This engine, combined with front disc brakes, four-speed manual transmission with optional overdrive, and a well-tuned suspension, made the Austin-Healey 3000 a formidable competitor in European rallying events, famously winning the Liege-Rome-Liege Rally in 1960 with a female driver and navigator. 

The 1965–1967 Mark III cars were refined with greater ground clearance through a modified rear chassis, and separate turn indicator lights. Production ended after 1967, the end of the magical “Big Healey” era.

• Pitting on chrome present around vehicle including windshield surround, vent windows, door belt moldings, door handles, taillight housings, and headlight bezels 

• Three dings in front grille surround 

• Touch up paint present on small chips on driver’s door 

• Light scrapes, chips, scuffing on various locations around vehicle 

• Driver and passenger windows require assistance to lift and lower in addition to the crank handle 

• Windows will require adjustment for tight fit to convertible top surround 

• Center horn button area cracked 

• Rubber shift boot torn 

• Turn indicator lever on steering wheel does not “hold” 

• Speedometer / odometer does not work, remaining gauges are functional

 Ownership History 

The owner of this vehicle has had it for almost 50 years, and it has been a preserved Austin-Healey that has been regularly enjoyed. This car started life in the rare shade of Gold Beige Metallic (only 500 built in that color). Mechanical and cosmetic improvements have been made throughout ownership. The brake booster, front calipers, rotors, wheel cylinders, and rear brakes have been sorted. Additionally, a clutch and carburetor rebuild are said to only have about 5k miles on them. The car was disassembled and painted in the current burgundy shade. A representative states: “The engine starts, runs, and idles smoothly. Shifting is smooth on both up and down shifts, overdrive is functional. Non-synchronized first gear has traditional ‘whine.’ Headlights, turn signals, parking, and brake light all functional. Performance and acceleration are smooth into the high RPM’s, and suspension, braking, handling, steering all great upon test drive.”
