Description

The latest full-size model from GM’s performance division Pontiac was marketed as “the big brother of the toughest kid on the block” – the GTO.  Debuting in 1964 as a trim level on the Pontiac Catalina, the 2+2 once again borrowed Ferrari nomenclature to describe its four-passenger seating arrangement in both Sports Coupe and Convertible form. The following model year saw the Catalina 2+2 restyled with a pronounced hood bulge, crisp body lines, and curved side glass, becoming its own standalone model for 1966. The 2+2 now used a 421 cu-in V8 along with heavy-duty suspension and low restriction exhaust system, offering GTO-like performance while seating four. As one of the most expensive Pontiacs offered at almost $500 more than the GTO Convertible, only approximately 2,298 2+2 Convertibles were sold in its penultimate model year (1966), making survivors quite rare and sought after today.
