Description

Ford general manager Lee Iacocca chose “Mustang” over the planned name “Cougar” because “it had the excitement of wide-open spaces.” A great call because Ford’s small wild pony captured the imagination of the buying public like no automobile before or since: it was simply the greatest new car launch in history. When introduced on 17 April 1964, the Mustang was available in Hardtop or Convertible versions and the Fastback 2+2 body came later in August 1964, all with either six-cylinder or V8 power. By the time the 1966 models were introduced a shocking 680,989 Mustangs had already been produced.

This 1966 Mustang Hardtop was originally a “Code C" 200 horsepower car in dark blue with a blue interior. From 2013 – 2015 the Mustang was professionally reimagined in Ravin Black paint over bare metal with contrasting vinyl “Le Mans” stripes. The interior is now in matching black vinyl with many new components. Power is from a Ford 289 cu-in V8 with Electronic Fuel Injection producing a reported 400 horsepower, driving a Ford “Top Loader” four-speed manual transmission. This is clearly a Mustang that is ready for wide-open spaces.
