Description
Ford swiftly revolutionized the automotive industry with the introduction of the Mustang at the New York World’s Fair in April 1964, captivating a young generation of enthusiasts and generating the sale of more than 120,000 Mustangs by August. Body styles included a two-door Hardtop Coupe, Convertible, and (beginning in September '65) Fastback 2+2, all of which were offered with a base 120-horsepower, 170 cu-in straight-six or a slew of optional engines up to a 289 HiPo V8.
Ford offered so many options (it boasted over 70, not including the 21 available colors) that it introduced only minor changes for the second full year of production in 1966. The most notable update on the '66 Ford Mustang was the introduction of a new grille design featuring a floating Mustang emblem. Additionally, the side scoops were redesigned, new wheel covers were introduced, and the interior was updated with a new five-gauge instrument cluster and optional convenience features.
Under the hood, the ’66 Mustang again offered a range of engine choices, and the original owner of this Hardtop Coupe selected a 200 cu-in inline-six with single-barrel carburetor and optional C4 Cruise-O-Matic three-speed automatic transmission. This Mustang was under single-family ownership for over 50 years before the current owner purchased it.

Ownership History
The New York seller of this 1966 Ford Mustang Hardtop Coupe has owned it since September 2021. The seller says, “This car was owned by one family before I bought it — the original owners were named Elwood and Luella. The dashboard still has Luella's name on it (although I renamed the car Elwood). It was passed down through the original owner's family and was stored in a garage for over 20 years while my brother took care of the maintenance; it occasionally went to car shows. I purchased the car, and for the past few years I’ve been driving it on weekends, with the occasional trip into work.”
