Description
“Flight 427, now departing through gates 1, 2, 3 and 4.”
Chevrolet knew they had something special. “Pardon the word play, but Flight 427 is our way of informing you that Corvette can now be ordered with a 427-cubic inch Turbo-Jet V8.”
The C2 Corvette Sting Ray was simply beautiful on the outside, and beautifully engineered inside. Debuting in 1963 and available as a coupe or convertible, the C2’s low, wide stance, long nose, and flowing rear was instantly memorable. Corvette engineer Zora Arkus-Duntov’s chassis had both strength and a low center of gravity, and combined with an all-new independent rear suspension and a capable front suspension, it provided incredible handling. And the driver-centered cockpit offered comfortable seating, informative gauges, and effortless style that rivaled the best European sports cars.
Aside from new standard four-wheel disc brakes, the other big news for 1965 was a brand-new NASCAR-inspired 396 cu-in big-block V8 option. Chevy upped the ante in 1966, bumping the displacement up to 427 cu-in in L36 390 hp hydraulic-lifter and L72 425 hp solid-lifter versions. Only the Muncie four-speed manual transmission was available with the 427.
This restored 1966 Corvette Convertible wears red paint, Redline tires, black leather bucket seats — and is ready for takeoff.

The 427 cu-in 390 hp engine is period correct but not original. Under current ownership the paint has been ceramic coated and stored in a climate controlled facility.
