Description
OFFERED WITHOUT RESERVE
The 1965 Ford Mustang marked the first full production year of Ford’s revolutionary pony car. Introduced in April 1964 as a ’65 model, the Mustang created an entirely new market segment — affordable, sporty cars with long hoods and short decks. Built on the compact Falcon platform, the Mustang featured a wide range of options, both aesthetically and mechanically.
This 1965 Mustang Hardtop was sold new to Claude Lyneis of Richland, Washington, in June 1965 by the Howard Motor Company in Seattle. Optional equipment included an AM radio, driver’s exterior rearview mirror, and reverse lights. Lyneis owned the car for 41 years before selling it in 2006, when the new owner began a refurbishment that was completed in 2013.
Work included rebuilding the Mustang’s factory 289ci V8 engine — boring out the cylinders to 0.30 over and installing a Stage 2 camshaft and 500 CFM Holley carburetor — to increase power to a claimed 300 horsepower. In addition, the car’s original transmission was swapped for a Tremec five-speed manual with Hurst shifter, and the Mustang received Atomic Orange paint (a GM color used on C6 Corvettes), Parchment vinyl upholstery, and orange carpet.
This nicely-upgraded ’65 Mustang is now offered at no reserve by the selling dealer with its factory order sheet, original registration, receipts, refurbishment photos, and a clean Florida.

Ownership History
This two-owner 1965 Ford Mustang Hardtop is offered from the Burnyzz Collection of January vehicles. It was purchased new in June 1965 from the Howard Motor Company in Seattle, and the original owner kept it for 41 years.
“I bought the Mustang just before heading off to graduate school in California in the summer of '65,” original owner Claude Lyneis said in a YouTube video posted 12 years ago. “It was my first car, and I probably never would have imagined that I'd own it for the next 41 years. The old Mustang was near the end, and the question was whether to crush it or find a new home for it. Being a California car — no rust — was an incentive for Gary in Florida to buy it [in 2006] with the idea of restoring it.”
