Description

OFFERED WITHOUT RESERVE

The world’s first muscle car, the 1964 GTO, was a rebel from the start. Pontiac’s 1964 Tempest intermediate was based on the new A-body platform, which featured perimeter-frame construction, an independent front/multi-link rear suspension, and a solid-axle rear end. Executives knew they needed a fast, affordable car to further Pontiac’s performance image, and when Chief Engineer John DeLorean realized that a 389 cu-in V8 would fit in the A-body, a plan was hatched. GM’s intermediate models were still limited to 330 cu-in engines, so Pontiac simply added the $295 GTO option, code 382, to the uplevel Tempest Le Mans.

Checking that box got buyers a powerful 389 with dual exhaust, bucket seats with a floor-shifted manual transmission, heavy duty springs and stiffer shocks, wider wheels and tires, hood scoops, and GTO emblems. And thanks to slick advertising, quick timeslips, and a whole bunch of performance-hungry buyers, the rebellious GTO became legendary.

This 1964 GTO retains its classic sheetmetal, but has been updated with stunning new paint, big modern wheels, and a custom, high-end interior. And its spotless engine bay hosts a modern LS engine backed by an overdrive transmission for powerful, reliable cruising.
