Description

The 1964 Mercury Comet underwent a significant redesign from the previous year's models, with a shift towards softer curves instead of aggressive squared lines. Sharing a compact unibody platform with the Ford Falcon, 1964 Comets were offered in three body styles: a two-door sedan, a four-door sedan, and a four-door station wagon. The Cyclone trim level was exclusively available as a two-door hardtop coupe for those seeking top-of-the-line performance. Engine options included a 170 cu-in inline six-cylinder engine producing 101 horsepower and a zesty new 289 cu-in V8 engine producing 210 horsepower. Buyers could choose between two manual transmissions or the automatic "Merc-o-Matic." Today, these Mercury Comets remain a delight to enthusiasts with their higher level of refinement paired with a high-performance V8.
