Description

“The new ’64 Fairlane has a combination of family-size room and sports-car feel that will change your mind about how much you can get at so low a price,” promised Ford’s 1964 sales brochure, and 379,012 Fairlane buyers were convinced.

Ford had transferred the Fairlane nameplate to its new “senior compact” line for 1962. The new, downsized Fairlanes were 11.7 inches shorter than regular Fords but 16.5 inches longer than their Falcon siblings. Late in 1963, Ford introduced its hot 271-horsepower, 289 cu-in V8 in its Fairlane, and styling was substantially upgraded for 1964, keeping Fairlanes — available in eight models — competitive with Chevy's new Chevelle.

Ford’s 1964 Fairlane 500 Two-Door Sedan offered “room comfort to pamper six people, handling to make parking a snap, and a ride even smoother and quieter than before.” This survivor car is almost completely original, with a 289 two-barrel V8, “three on the tree” manual transmission, and a clean interior with no rips or tears in the upholstery and little carpet wear. Perhaps it’s your turn to try Fairlane’s “family-size room and sports-car feel.”
