The 1964 Buick Riviera marked the confident second year of one of Detroit’s boldest design statements and was Buick’s answer to the growing “personal luxury” market. Designed under GM styling chief Bill Mitchell, the Riviera — Italian for “coastline” — combined sharp, European-inspired lines with a long hood, crisp roofline, and restrained trim.
Motor Trend magazine described the Riviera as “a bold move in a new direction for Buick,” while Car and Driver called it a car that “approaches Bentley Continental standards at less than half the price.”
The Riviera hit its stride in 1964 with a carbureted 425ci Nailhead V8 engine that produced 340 hp and 465 lb-ft. of torque from the factory, mated to a three-speed automatic transmission, both of which are at the heart of this ’64. This one has been refinished in gray metallic paint with reupholstered gray vinyl button‑tufted seats and door trim. Additional features include air conditioning, front seat belts, center console, Sonomatic AM radio, remote-operated driver's side mirror, and power steering, brakes, windows, and seats.
This 1964 Buick Riviera is now offered on consignment by the selling dealer with a clean Texas title.
