Description

OFFERED WITHOUT RESERVE

In only 10 years, the C1 Corvette went from a six-cylinder cruiser to a V8-powered screamer competing with the world’s fastest cars. After the stylish 1953 model debuted, the Corvette was given the groundbreaking small-block V8 in 1955, and a sexy new body in 1956. Then in 1960, a privateer Corvette notched its first class win at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, declaring to the world that this machine could go toe to toe with Europe’s best sports cars.

The big news for 1962 was that the live-axle Corvette replaced the 283 with the 327, which was available in power outputs between 250 and 360 horsepower. Drivers had the choice of a carburetor or mechanical fuel injection, and a manual or automatic transmission. That 327 sat between the fenders of a uniquely designed body — the front end was still C1; however, the reshaped rear wore recessed quad taillights under its prominent trunk. That posterior was an early look at the C2’s styling, with elements that remain even on modern Vettes.

This Roman Red 1962 Corvette looks stock, but has been upgraded with a modified 327 with fuel injection, power steering, and an aftermarket gauge cluster.
