The 1957 Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud I represents a pinnacle of post-war British luxury motoring, combining timeless elegance with engineering refinement. Introduced in 1955 as a successor to the Silver Dawn, the Silver Cloud I was designed by John P. Blatchley and marked a significant stylistic shift for Rolls-Royce, embracing smoother, more modern lines while retaining the marque’s stately presence.
Built on a rigid steel box-section chassis, the Silver Cloud I featured a 4.9-liter inline-six engine producing approximately 180 horsepower, paired with a four-speed GM Hydra-Matic automatic transmission. In September 1957, twin SU carburetors were added, boosting performance slightly. The Silver Cloud I was available in both standard and long-wheelbase saloon configurations, with bespoke coachwork offered by firms like Mulliner, Park Ward, and James Young. Its body was primarily steel, with aluminum used for the doors, hood, and trunk lid to reduce weight. Interior appointments reflected Rolls-Royce’s commitment to craftsmanship.
Only 2,238 units of the Silver Cloud I were produced between 1955 and 1958, making the 1957 model a rare and desirable collector car. This 1957 Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud I was originally exported to Canada and delivered to Rolls-Royce of Canada, Ltd. on 14 November 1957 and was titled as a 1958 model.
