Description

OFFERED WITHOUT RESERVE

Two years after the initial rollout of the Belvedere — named for the Italian phrase bel vedere, or “beautiful view” — Plymouth redesigned its entire line for 1955, in parallel with the very successful Chrysler, DeSoto, and Dodge “forward look” revisions.

While adding a four-door Suburban station wagon and two-door sedan to the existing lineup of four-door sedan, two-door hardtop, two-door convertible, and two-door Suburban wagon, Plymouth sales soared to 670,000 units. Of those, 275,000 buyers chose a Belvederes, which Plymouth referred to as “Beauty Queen of its class!”

The 1955 Plymouths were longer, lower, and wider than previous years. In fact, production lines had to be extended 67 feet to accommodate the new dimensions. In addition, the slab-sided body was brightened up significantly by side trim and two-tone paint schemes, as well as a rounded windshield and rear window. Power came from a 230 cubic-inch inline-six or V8 options up to 303 cubic inches.

This 1955 Plymouth Belvedere Club Sedan received a ground-up restoration about 15 years ago as a father-son project and has been meticulously maintained and garaged in the years since.
