Description
OFFERED WITH NO RESERVE
The 1955 Nash Metropolitan was a groundbreaking subcompact car, introduced by Nash-Kelvinator as one of the first American-designed vehicles specifically targeted for economy-minded drivers. Unlike the full-size cars dominating U.S. roads in the early 1950s, the Metropolitan was small, stylish, and affordable, appealing to urban motorists and second-car buyers. Nash partnered with Austin in England to manufacture the car, making it a unique transatlantic collaboration: American design, British production, and a 1,200 cc Austin four-cylinder engine under the hood.
The Metropolitan debuted as a two-passenger coupe and convertible, featuring a distinctive European flair with its rounded body, two-tone paint, and compact dimensions. Despite its size, it offered amenities like a full bench seat, heater, and radio—luxuries for an economy car of its era. Fuel efficiency and maneuverability were strong selling points, and advertising targeted women drivers. Initially marketed as a Nash, the 1955 Metropolitan also carried Hudson badges after both merged, though the car was otherwise identical.
This example features Hudson badging and benefits from a prior refurbishment, including fitting a 1959–62 body, evidenced by the more practical trunk lid seen on later Metropolitans. Power comes from an Austin A-series 1200cc four-cylinder engine paired with a column-shift three-speed manual transmission.
This refreshed 1955 Hudson Metropolitan Hardtop is now offered at no reserve by the selling dealer with a clean Florida title.
