Description

At the conclusion of World War II, Chevy resumed civilian truck production in August 1945, but it really got rolling in May 1947 with its new “Advance Design” light-duty pickups. Wider, longer, and lower than the prewar leftovers that were marketed in 1946, the Advance Design models looked thoroughly modern, received a larger cab, and were powered by a 216-cubic-inch “Stovebolt” six-cylinder engine.

The first and only major Advance Design styling and engineering changes occurred with the 1954 models and carried over to 1955. These models — which came in 1/2 -, 3/4 -, and 1-ton versions — featured a one-piece windshield, an all-new grille, new parking lights, and a new steering wheel and instrument panel. Chevrolet sold the 1955 models until 25 March 1955, when it launched the all-new, V8-powered Task Force pickup series.

Through the years, the significant popularity of the stylish Task Force line made the earlier 1947-55 Advance Design Chevy pickups more affordable, and they are frequent targets of engine-swapping custom builders. This 1955 1/2-ton (3100 Series) pickup is a prime example.
