Description

“Chevrolet’s new V8 is a masterpiece of compact design and smooth performance. It’s the kind of engine that makes you want to drive just for the fun of it.” When they wrote it, little did Popular Mechanics’ writers know that the 1955 Chevrolet was making history.

This vehicle marked a turning point in American automotive design, introducing a bold new look and engineering innovations that redefined the brand. Known as the first of the iconic “Tri-Five” 1955-57 Chevrolets, the 1955 model was offered in three trim levels — 150, 210, and Bel Air — with a variety of body styles including sedans, wagons, and convertibles.

Those bodies featured a sleek, modern look with a Ferrari-inspired grille, wraparound windshield, and jet-age tailfins. And under the hood, 1955 saw the debut of the 265 cu-in small-block V8, a lightweight, high-performance powerplant that became a cornerstone of GM engineering for decades. The 1955 Chevy’s combination of style, performance, and affordability made it a massive success then, and a desirable classic today.

And this mean ’55 channels the ghost of Bob Falfa from American Graffiti, possessing sinister black paint, a cammed-up stroker V8, and chrome wheels.
