Description

OFFERED WITHOUT RESERVE

The 1954 Citroën 2CV marked an important stage in the evolution of Pierre‑Jules Boulanger’s vision for a true “people’s car,” a machine simple enough for rural France yet ingenious enough to rescue Citroën from financial crisis. Rooted in the late‑1930s TPV program, the 2CV embodied purposeful minimalism: four wheels under an umbrella‑like body, long‑travel suspension capable of crossing a plowed field with eggs unbroken, and an air‑cooled flat‑twin engine designed for low cost and easy maintenance. Early models relied on a 375cc, eight‑horsepower engine, leaving them modest in performance but remarkably lightweight and durable.

By 1954, demand far exceeded supply, and Citroën introduced meaningful improvements. The new AZ model featured a stronger 425cc engine with 14 horsepower and a four‑speed manual gearbox. Subtle refinements to trim and comfort appeared without compromising the car’s utilitarian spirit.

Like the Ford Model T in America and the VW Beetle in Germany, the Citroën 2CV put France on wheels, and the 1954 2CV reinforced the model’s cultural status as France’s beloved, affordable workhorse.

This 1954 Citroen 2CV is now represented by a Broad Arrow Specialist with a clean Florida title in the current owner's name.
