Description
OFFERED WITHOUT RESERVE
The neighborhood on Westbury Road in Garden City, New York, was abuzz that day in March 1951—Algernon Warinner just brought home a brand-new Cadillac! The sticker read $3,771.00 including $445.00 in options, a princely sum then, but what Mr. Warinner got was the largest and most popular Cadillac available that year, a Model 62 Four-Door Sedan (only the limited-production 75 Fleetwood limousine was longer). The Exeter Green paint contrasted with the abundant chrome, and the two-tone tan cloth interior was sumptuous. Power was by Cadillac’s advanced 331 cu-in overhead-valve V8 producing 160 horsepower. GM’s Hydra-Matic transmission was standard at a time automatics were very rare even as options.
Today this “barn find” Cadillac shows California 2004 license plates, and the dry climate and sun of much of that state might explain the rust-free sheet metal and faded, cracked original paint. The interior has minor wear, though, and it is said to start and run well. Showing 92,684 miles, which is believed to be original, this 1951 Cadillac Model 62 Four-Door Sedan could be the solid foundation for a restoration, or perhaps, you could just proudly display the patina that only time and travel can create.
