Description
OFFERED WITHOUT RESERVE
Ford’s first truly modern postwar design debuted in 1948, and its slab-sided body and pontoon fenders quickly earned it the nickname “Shoebox Ford.” By 1949 it was offered in a wide range of body styles, and powered by an inline six‑cylinder or a Flathead V8. 1950 saw even sleeker styling, with Ford’s ads proclaiming “50 Ways New for ’50,” and showcasing the revised exterior trim and the introduction of a crest emblem — which would remain on Ford’s full‑size models for the next four decades.
The streamlined 1950 Ford Coupe went on to become one of the most customized hot rods ever — and this Custom Deluxe Coupe is a great example: it has been highly modified with a chopped top, sloping B pillar, and cut glass. The front sheetmetal has been hand formed, resulting in Frenched-in headlights and a custom DeSoto grille blended into the Ford bumper. The unique styling continues with shaved trunk and door handles, a Frenched-in antenna, and modified taillight lenses. Once complete it was shot with two-tone orange and red, and finished in custom pinstriping. Period 14" chrome reverse wheels complete the stunning look.
The interior was updated with white and beige upholstery, with matching dash, door panels, and headliner. Modern high-back bucket seats and air conditioning are featured inside, and the driver surveys the original instrument cluster and upgraded gauges while spinning an aftermarket wood steering wheel on a tilt column.
Underneath the hood scoop is a modified big-block Chevy V8, which passes power through a three-speed automatic transmission back to a 10-bolt rear end with a limited-slip differential. That drivetrain is housed in a 1970s midsize GM frame, which still wears stock suspension, steering, and front drum/rear disc brakes.
This 1950 Ford Coupe Custom is now offered by the selling dealer with a clean Florida title.
