Description

Dodge introduced its new post-war truck line in late 1947, bringing several notable improvements. The front axle was repositioned further back, while the engine was moved forward on the chassis. Combined with redesigned steering geometry, these changes resulted in remarkably agile handling for American trucks of the immediate post-war period. The trucks also featured entirely new sheet metal and redesigned cabs. The standard cab was taller than before, with increased window area, while the Deluxe cab added vent windows in the doors and rear-quarter windows, and the Custom cab further included dual sun visors, a driver's door armrest, and foam-rubber seat padding. This new five-window design was marketed as the "Pilot House" cab, highlighting the improved visibility of the additional rear quarter windows. These “Job Rated” pickups continued with only modest trim tweaks through 1953—and thanks to the rock-solid durability and economy of Chrysler’s flathead sixes—were a popular work rig both in period and today.
