Description

Introduced as Chrysler’s most luxurious postwar offering, the 1949 Town & Country Convertible represented a refined evolution of the marque’s distinctive wood‑bodied lineage. As part of Chrysler’s all‑new Second Series C‑46 redesign, the Town & Country combined hand‑crafted hardwood body framing with flowing, modern postwar styling, advanced ride quality, and upscale appointments. These convertibles were built in limited numbers and are among the most exclusive American cars of their era.

This 1949 Chrysler Town & Country Convertible is finished in red over refurbished hardwood body panels and a reupholstered red leather interior with Highlander plaid inserts. Power is provided by Chrysler’s 323.5ci Spitfire straight‑eight paired with a 3-speed Presto-Matic Fluid‑Drive semi‑automatic transmission. The car rides on a 127‑inch wheelbase and features independent front suspension, hydraulic drum brakes, and an abundance of chrome trim reported to have been replated.

According to the selling dealer, this example underwent a five‑year refurbishment, with much of the mechanical and assembly work performed in‑house. The car is accompanied by documentation detailing both refurbishment and routine maintenance.

This 1949 Chrysler Town & Country Convertible is now offered by the selling dealer with service records, various spare parts, owner’s and shop manuals, snap-on boot cover, and a clean Michigan title.
