Description

OFFERED WITHOUT RESERVE

The 1946-1950 Chrysler Town and Country, based on the New Yorker chassis, is a celebrated postwar classic that blended steel bodywork with genuine ash and mahogany trim. As one of Chrysler’s most luxurious offerings of the era, it embodied elegance and innovation, with its Fluid Drive transmission and upscale appointments. The convertibles were produced in limited numbers and remain highly sought after for their craftsmanship and distinctive design.

This example carries a rich personal history. It was reportedly used as a daily driver in Chicago until the early 1970s, when the consignor’s father purchased it and drove it to Detroit, Michigan. Though never formally restored, it has been carefully maintained and upkept over the years. However, the original wood trim remains surprisingly retained and untouched, preserving its authentic character.

In the mid-1980s, the car received a Catalina Tan repaint, a re-chromed front bumper, and a reupholstered interior in Highlander Plaid. The original Fluid Drive transmission is said to operate smoothly, and the car presents as a complete driver. It is missing side mirrors and a top/hood trim piece but otherwise remains intact and largely original. An endearing postwar American convertible, this Town and Country Convertible offers a nostalgic glimpse into postwar motoring toting an endearing family legacy.
