Ford thoroughly updated their vehicle line in 1941, in preparation for a time of unpredictability surrounding World War II. The 1941 design would continue in an abandoned 1942 model year and would be restarted until 1946 and produced until 1948 post-war. During these initial years, the 1940s Ford evolved considerably. The front fenders came in three pieces, with the idea in mind that small damage could be easily replaced. Notably, the 1941 convertible had no rear side windows, only windows within the door. Five different coil/distributor arrangements were used during 1941, famously creating confusion for mechanics.

The two previous Ford car lines, Standard and De Luxe, now blossomed into three: Special, De Luxe and Super De Luze. Ford vehicles had been V8-only since 1935, but dealer requests for an "economy" engine option prompted the introduction of a six-cylinder unit. The popular 221 cu in V8 remained as the top-line engine and was standard in Super De Luxe models.

This 1941 Ford had only two owners between 1941 and 2001. After it was acquired by a well-known Pittsburgh collector, it underwent a no-expense-spared restoration. Its factory ported engine features a "P-stamped" block and was fully custom built by Brockers Speed Shop with high-end internal components–rods, pistons, cams, polished aluminum heads, polished intake–sourced from Flathead Jack Inc. Additional features include a Holley 4-barrel carburetor, 12-volt Mallory distributor, giving this Super Deluxe Convertible “sleeper status,” although that term wouldn’t be popularized for nearly a century later.
