Description

The 1941 Dodge D19 Luxury Liner Business Coupe was a stylish and practical vehicle designed for traveling salesmen and small business owners. As part of Dodge’s D19 series, it featured a streamlined design with integrated headlights and a wide grille — styling cues that were ahead of their time. The “Luxury Liner” designation marked it as a top-tier trim, offering upscale touches like woodgrain interior accents and a Mopar Deluxe cabin heater.

Under the hood, it housed a 218-cubic inch L-head inline-six engine producing 91 horsepower, paired with Dodge’s innovative Fluid Drive transmission — a semi-automatic system that made shifting smoother. The business coupe body style was characterized by its two-door layout and a large trunk, ideal for storing sales samples or tools. Inside, it typically had a single bench seat and a lockable bulkhead pass-through to the trunk.

A total of 22,318 business coupes were produced in 1941, making it a relatively rare body style compared to sedans. The D19 was the last pre-war Dodge model before civilian production halted in December 1941 for World War II, and this very authentic Luxury Liner Business Coupe is an older restoration by well-known George Carney of Memoryville USA in Rolla, Missouri.

Ownership History

The consignor of this 1941 Dodge D19 Luxury Liner Business Coupe states, “This was restored by George Carney (of Memoryville) in the 80’s. $33,376 in receipts (80’s-era dollars) are included that detail what was done. The restoration lasted two and a half years. The car was relocated to California sometime after and remained there until I bought it recently. The car is also special because it was optioned with Fluid Drive, a semi-automatic transmission. When the car was restored, all new glass was installed, engine was rebuilt, wiring was redone, etc. When I got the car, I installed four new Firestone Deluxe Champion tires, flushed the coolant, and changed the oil.”
