Description
OFFERED WITHOUT RESERVE
Charles Griffin’s lifelong love affair with American cars began at sixteen when he restored a dusty blue Studebaker. The passion he had for that car followed him through the rest of his life. Over the years, the scale of his garage and projects grew in step with his love for cars. Ultimately, Charles built his own restoration paradise, complete with a paint room, body shop, show room and features that most gearheads only dream about. His sanctuary became a second home to his family and friends. The selection of fine automobiles offered here represents the passion, drive, and memories that Charles shared. Hagerty Marketplace is honored to present the Griffin Collection, offered entirely without reserve.

The 1940 Ford Deluxe Convertible is a celebrated example of pre-war American automotive design, blending style, innovation, and affordability. Introduced during a pivotal time in Ford’s history, the 1940 model year marked the final iteration of the company’s popular 1937–1940 design cycle. The Deluxe series sat above the Standard line, offering more refined trim, upgraded interiors, and enhanced styling.
The 1940 Ford featured a sleek, modern look with sealed-beam headlights integrated into the fenders, a bold three-part grille, and smoother body lines. The convertible coupe variant was especially admired for its elegant proportions and open-air driving experience. It came equipped with a manually operated soft top and could seat up to five passengers.
Under the hood, buyers could choose between Ford’s reliable 85-horsepower or 100-horsepower flathead V8 engines, which delivered strong performance for the era. The car also featured hydraulic brakes—a significant upgrade from earlier mechanical systems. This particular ’40 Ford has received another significant upgrade with Small Block Chevrolet V8 power, automatic transmission, and air conditioning.
