Description
For the 1940 model year, Ford introduced the Model 01A and 022A, featuring a stylish look by influential chief designer Eugene T. Gregorie. The standout feature of these new Fords was their V-shaped grille and fully integrated headlights placed in the outboard position on both De Luxe and Standard models, giving them a contemporary appearance that would carry them into the late 1940s. As in previous years, Ford offered a wide array of body styles, including two and four-door models, convertibles, and even a wood-bodied station wagon. Mechanically, the 1940 Ford was similar to its predecessors with most cars powered by the venerable flathead V8 engine producing 85 horsepower. Those 85 horses are tame by today’s standards, so this all-steel ’40 Ford Deluxe Coupe packs a Chevy 350 engine and Turbo 350 automatic transmission. It rides and corners better than the original, too, thanks to Mustang II front suspension and disc brakes, and is further upgraded with power steering, power brakes, air conditioning and a heater. With classic style plus modern power and comfort this 1940 Ford Deluxe Coupe is still a standout.
