Description
“Aristocrat of the low-price field.” That’s what Chevrolet called their Master De Luxe models for 1935. The competition for low-cost automobiles was understandably abundant during the height of the Great Depression. Plymouth fought for sales in the “low price three” with their well-engineered PJ Deluxe, while Ford’s Model 48 was known for its powerful V8 engine. Chevrolet countered with their updated Standard and upscale Master De Luxe models. “Chevrolet… has priced the Master De Luxe models so low as to leave no doubt of their extraordinary value.”
Introduced as part of the Master series, the De Luxe Coupe featured a more streamlined design compared to its predecessors, with a distinctive grille, rounded fenders, and rear-hinged “suicide doors” unique to the ’35 models. Its five-window design and trunk instead of rumble seat separated it from Chevy’s Sport Coupe model. Chevrolet also introduced “Knee-Action” independent front suspension for advanced comfort and safety. The 1935 Master De Luxe series was powered by a 206.8 cubic inch “Blue Flame” overhead-valve inline-six engine, rated at 74 horsepower, backed by a three-speed manual transmission.
This restored 1935 Chevrolet Master De Luxe Coupe is proof you could have quality transportation at low cost with plenty of style.
