Description

The 1934 Dodge Sedan marked a significant evolution in Dodge’s automotive design and engineering during the Great Depression. Available in several trims — including the DR “DeLuxe,” DS “DeLuxe Special,” and the more economical DRXX “Standard Six”— these models offered a blend of style, durability, and performance that appealed to a wide range of buyers.

Built on a pioneering all-steel body with Chrysler-engineered components, the 1934 Dodge featured a longer wheelbase (117 to 121 inches depending on the model), skirted fenders, and teardrop-shaped headlamps that reflected the era’s growing interest in streamlined design. A new 217.8-cubic inch L-head straight-six engine debuted that year, delivering improved power and reliability over its predecessor.

Despite the economic challenges of the time, Dodge positioned the sedan as a practical yet stylish alternative to more expensive competitors like the 1932 Ford. Its solid construction and hydraulic brakes made it a favorite among performance demonstrators such as the Joie Chitwood Hell Drivers.

Today, the 1934 Dodge is appreciated for its advanced engineering, aesthetics, and historical value. Though not as widely restored as early Fords, it remains a durable and distinctive example of pre-war American automotive craftsmanship — as seen on this restored DeLuxe Four-Door Sedan.

Ownership History

The consignor states, “This 1934 Dodge Sedan has been given a complete, ground up restoration by the grandson of the original owner. It received a no expense spared authentic recondition, and the car performs fantastically well. At the time, the car was renowned for its incredibly quiet, smooth drive train. It featured an ‘all new’ front independent suspension, hydraulic brakes, and seven-point ‘Finger Touch’ ventilation system. It also has a ‘free wheeling’ transmission at the pull of a knob that allows for clutch-less shifting. The car is in the original configuration. It has also received a recent ‘sale prep’ service to make sure all systems are in operating order.”
