Description

As master builders of luxury cars boasted as the “Standard of the World,” Cadillac would release a new standard for the brand with their revolutionary V-12 and V-16 engines in 1929. Announced by Cadillac president Lawrence P. Fisher, these new models were a home run. However, coming only two months after Wall Street’s Black Tuesday crash, the timing could hardly be worse for releasing the new standard of luxury car only obtainable by some of the world's wealthiest individuals. Offered coachwork from the custom in-house bodies by Fisher, prices of a V-12 Cadillac would range from $3,795 to $4,895 during a period where U.S. wages averaged $1,368 per, and the average home cost $6,000. Closely related to the top-of-the-line V-16 costing as much as $9,700, the V-12 offered superb performance advertised as ‘difficult to realize how swiftly the miles slip past.’

This car is part of the Retro Motors Collection, which comprises over 30 cars largely from the 1950s through today, with a focus on American muscle and high-powered European sports cars. View the full collection here.
