Description

OFFERED WITHOUT RESERVE

Blending old school cars with modern mechanicals, hot rod enthusiasts have been changing the automotive landscape — and vernacular — for decades. The term “highboy” refers to a style of hot rod where the body is mounted on top of the frame, rather than having the frame “channeled” or lowered around the body. This gives the car a higher stance, hence the name.

The term, which originated in the hot rod community during the 1940s and ’50s, originally referred to 1928-1932 Ford Model A roadsters that had their fenders and running boards removed, exposing the frame rails. These Fords were popular base models due to their iconic design and availability.

This 1929 Ford Model A Highboy has had its fenders removed and wears custom paint and interior, chrome wheels, and larger tires in the rear. The open-top car is powered by a modern V8 engine mated to a three-speed automatic transmission, which replaced the original 200.5 cubic-inch inline four-cylinder engine and three-speed manual gearbox. It also has AutoMeter gauges, custom headlights, and multiple performance upgrades.
