Description
OFFERED WITHOUT RESERVE
Nicknamed the “Baby Rolls” in contrast to the larger and more expensive Ghost and Phantom, Rolls-Royce introduced the Twenty in 1922 to appeal to the growing owner/driver market. The Twenty featured a number of engineering advancements over the older 40/50HP model including a mono-block six-cylinder engine design with an overhead valvetrain, a detachable cylinder head, and a modern coil-and-battery ignition system. Paired with a four-speed manual transmission from 1925, the Twenty was ideally suited to both town and touring use with a wide variety of coachbuilt bodies available to customers. According to documentation provided by the Rolls-Royce Foundation, this 1928 Rolls-Royce 20HP was originally sold on 12 May 1928 via George Heath Limited of Birmingham with a note on the build sheet recording the original coachbuilder as Mulliners Limited. Additional documentation indicates that by 1938, the Rolls-Royce had been rebodied with De Luxe Foursome Drop Head Coupe coachwork by The Southern Motor Company of Clapham, London, who rebodied many chassis in period with more contemporary 1930s designs. Today, chassis number GBM41 is presented in disassembled, barn find condition, representing the perfect starting point for a ground-up restoration back to its former glory.
