Description
When the Jeep Gladiator appeared in 2020, Jeep pickup enthusiasts were thrilled. Fond memories abound of the 1940s-1960s Willys Jeep pickups and 1960s Gladiator wagons, and the modern Gladiator’s take on those classics hit all the high notes. This convertible pickup/wagon’s rugged design was infused with Wrangler DNA, and wore a seven-slot grille, traditional fenders and taillamps, and a five-foot bed. A four-bolt design allowed the windshield to be dropped down, and an included Torx toolkit made for fast removal of the aluminum doors.
As all Gladiator models—Sport, Sport S, Overland, and Rubicon—rode on a long, 137-inch wheelbase, they were stable on-road and incredibly capable off it: Sport and Overland models used a Command-Trac 4x4 system with a two-speed transfer case and 2.72:1 low gear, with heavy-duty Dana 44 axles. Rubicons got an upgraded Rock-Trac 4x4 system with a 4:1 “4LO” ratio, Tru-Lock locking differentials, an off-road rear bumper, and standard 33-inch tires.
But with factory 3.6-liter gas or 3.0-liter turbo-diesel six cylinders, the only thing missing from stock models is speed. However, this orange Gladiator boasts a 707-horsepower Hellcat V8 and beefy automatic transmission swap, and wears a heavily customized body and a heavy-duty suspension to boot.
