The 2018 Chevrolet Camaro COPO is a modern drag racing machine rooted in a legendary past. Originally introduced in 1969 through Chevrolet’s Central Office Production Order (COPO) system, it allowed dealers to bypass GM’s restrictions and equip Camaros with powerful 427ci V8 engines. These cars became instant icons among performance enthusiasts. 

Revived in 2012, the COPO Camaro returned as a purpose-built, NHRA-certified drag racer. The 2018 model continued this tradition, with only 69 units produced. Buyers could choose from three engines: a 5.0-liter V8, a naturally aspirated 7.0-liter V8, or a supercharged 5.7-liter V8 as seen here, capable of blistering quarter-mile runs.

Among these, 29 were Hot Wheels Editions, celebrating the 50th anniversary of the toy brand. These featured a vivid “Crush” or “Supercrush” orange paint inspired by Hot Wheels tracks, black striping, and exclusive badging. The package added nearly $19,000 to the base price and included race-focused design elements like deleted mirrors and unique fascias. 

Built strictly for competition, the COPO had no VIN and wasn’t street legal. It came equipped with a roll cage, wheelie bar, parachute, and racing seats. This Camaro COPO is #44 of 69 produced for the model year and optioned with the Hot Wheels Package and supercharged 5.7-liter V8.

Ownership History 

The seller took delivery of the 2018 Chevrolet Camaro COPO Hot Wheels Edition at Camaro Superfest 2018 and reports the car was “never raced, only driven in and out of its trailer. Oil changed yearly and coolant has rust preventative. Comes with all the COPO stuff, including bill of sale, racers package, and show floor. I have enjoyed it and it is now time for someone else to be the caretaker.”
