Description
The magical 2008–13 135i coupe is the result of BMW taking a tried-and-true 3-series powerplant, and dropping it into a nimble, lightweight chassis with a four-inch-shorter wheelbase.
Under the hood, the 135i features a twin-turbocharged, 3.0-liter inline-six engine that revs to 7,000 rpm and produces 300 horsepower and 300 lb-ft of torque. This engine is paired with either a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic transmission. The 135i’s rear-wheel-drive layout and near-50:50 weight distribution contributes to its agile handling. And the 135i’s straight-line performance is impressive, accelerating from 0 to 60 mph in just five seconds and running a mid-13-second quarter mile.
The 135i’s design is compact yet aggressive, with a distinctive front fascia, short overhangs, and a muscular stance. Inside, it offers a driver-focused cockpit, including leather upholstery, automatic climate control, and a premium sound system.
A Motor Trend test driver reported, “I’m blown away by this little stealth fighter. I can’t recall another car that’s been more surprising to drive; I expected the 135i to offer solid performance, but it’s breathtakingly quick. Refined, too — it’s a bona-fide BMW. Direct and communicative steering feel, bags of grip. An absolute blast to drive.”
