The 2007 Shelby GT utilized the then-new S197 chassis Mustang into a limited-production, factory-backed performance car through Shelby Automobiles in Las Vegas, Nevada. Modified by Shelby American at its skunkworks in Las Vegas, the 2007 Shelby GT was based on the then-new S197-chassis Mustang. It bridged the gap between the standard, Ford-built Mustang GT and the halo Shelby GT500 with chassis, powertrain, and appearance enhancements developed by Carroll Shelby himself as well as Ford Racing to deliver a sharper driving experience.

Starting with a factory Mustang GT, Shelby American outfitted each example with the Ford Racing Power Pack, consisting of a 90mm cold-air intake and Pro-Cal engine management calibration, as well as a strut tower brace. Factory rated output increased to 319 horsepower and 330 lb-ft of torque, while a high-flow X-pipe exhaust system and Ford Racing mufflers provided a more aggressive soundtrack. Revised suspension components, including lowering springs, dampers, and sway bars, further distinguished the Shelby GT from its Mustang GT counterpart.
