Description
The 2006 Pontiac Solstice marked Pontiac’s bold return to the roadster segment, blending classic styling with modern engineering. Unveiled as a concept in 2002 and entering production for the 2006 model year, the Solstice was built on GM’s new Kappa platform, designed specifically for small, rear-wheel-drive sports cars. Its sleek, curvaceous body drew inspiration from vintage roadsters, while its aggressive stance and wide track gave it a contemporary edge.
Under the hood, the Solstice featured a 2.4-liter Ecotec inline-four engine, producing 177 horsepower and 166 lb-ft of torque, paired with a five-speed manual transmission; a five-speed automatic was also available. The sporty Solstice offered a balanced driving experience with responsive handling and a low center of gravity.
The 2006 model came exclusively as a convertible, with a manually operated soft top and a unique clamshell trunk design. Inside, it offered a driver-focused cockpit with minimalistic styling and optional leather trim. The car was praised for its affordability, style, and fun-to-drive nature. It helped rejuvenate interest in Pontiac and laid the groundwork for future variants, including the turbocharged GXP and the rare Solstice Coupe.
This original 2006 Solstice, wearing Cool (Liquid Silver Metallic) paint, is No. 688 of the first 1000 Series and has been driven only 13,122 miles.
