Description
Continuous improvement is expected at Porsche. The 2005 Porsche 911 Carrera Coupé, internally designated as the 997, marked a significant evolution in the iconic 911 lineage. Introduced as a successor to the 996, the 997 brought back the classic round headlights, a nod to Porsche purists who favored the traditional styling. Under the rear deck it featured a 3.6-liter flat-six engine producing 325 horsepower and 273 lb-ft of torque, paired with a six-speed manual transmission and rear-wheel drive.
This generation emphasized a return to refined aesthetics and improved driving dynamics. The 997 Carrera Coupé could accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just 4.8 seconds, showcasing its performance pedigree. It also featured a more luxurious and ergonomic interior, with standard leather upholstery, sport seats, and modern conveniences. With a curb weight of around 3,075 pounds and a drag coefficient of 0.28, it maintained Porsche’s commitment to lightweight engineering and aerodynamic efficiency.
“Porsche returns some things that were lost,” said Car and Driver in 2005. “The company achieved that partly through new technology but mainly by reversing the car back to better days of styling and attitude.”
