Description

The retro-styled 2005 Chevrolet SSR pickup truck blended classic GM design with modern engineering. Built on GM’s GMT368 platform, it featured a retractable hardtop and a unique body-on-frame construction derived from the Chevy TrailBlazer.

The 2005 model got a big performance upgrade with the adoption of the Corvette’s 6.0-liter LS2 V8, with 390 horsepower flowing through either a four-speed automatic or a newly available six-speed manual transmission, significantly improving acceleration. Car and Driver remarked, “The combination of this engine and the six-speed tranny gives the SSR some rabid bite to go along with an already hairy bark.” And that statement was backed up with a 5.5-second 0-60 time and a 14.1-second quarter-mile sprint.

However, just as important was the 2005 SSR’s stiffened chassis and revised tuning for its independent front and live rear suspension, which resulted in a smoother ride and a more solid driving feel. Production ended in 2006, but the 2005 model year remains notable for transforming the cult-classic SSR from a cruiser into a legitimate performance vehicle.

This well-optioned SSR finished in silver over black is one of only 1,637 produced with an LS2 paired with a manual transmission, and has only traveled 20,344 miles since new.
